Electrician answering service, an answering service for electricians, electrician virtual receptionist and electrician call answering service that books jobs 24/7
Electrical contractors lose calls in a very particular way. The owner is also the lead electrician, the phone is in a pocket under a tool belt, and the call comes in while both hands are inside a live panel. Nobody answers a phone in that moment, and nobody should. The homeowner who wanted a quote on an EV charger or a panel upgrade does not leave a message. They call the next shop on the list.

The short answer
An electrician answering service picks up the calls your shop misses while everyone is on a job, books the service call or estimate onto your calendar, and puts real emergencies through to your on-call electrician. For a shop taking about 120 calls a month (360 minutes), published September 2026 pricing runs from $89 to $1,725: AI services cost $89 to $449 and live answering services about $471 to $1,725. PhoneAgent.ai is $89 a month flat on Starter, or $199 on Professional with warm transfer to your on-call tech, and a storm week does not change the bill.
PhoneAgent.ai answers every one of those calls in your company name, asks what the job is, books the service call or estimate into your calendar while the caller is still on the line, and texts you the summary. Calls that cannot wait, a breaker that will not reset with no heat in January or a commercial client with the lights out, go to whoever is on call, by rules you write once.
Below is what each way of covering the phone costs at two real volumes, priced from each provider's own pricing page, plus the things our AI receptionist will not do (it does not write jobs into ServiceTitan, Housecall Pro or Jobber, for one).

Why it works
What your team gets with an electrician answering service
Answered while your hands are full
It picks up on the first ring while you are in an attic, a crawlspace or a live panel, handles several callers at once after a storm, and never sends a new customer to voicemail.
Service calls and estimates booked
It asks your questions (what is wrong or what they want installed, home or business, address, how old the panel is, how soon), books the slot on your calendar and texts the caller a confirmation.
Same bill in storm season
You pay $89, $199 or $399 a month. The week after a storm knocks out half the county costs the same as a quiet February, because nothing is billed by the minute.
What it handles
Answered, disclosed and booked on autopilot
The AI receptionist answers every call 24/7, discloses it is your AI assistant, qualifies and routes the caller, answers your FAQs, and books the appointment straight into your calendar, then texts a confirmation and, on Professional and above, syncs the contact to your CRM.
- Answers every call 24/7, including nights, weekends and holidays
- Books service calls, estimates and inspections into Google Calendar, Outlook, Calendly or Acuity
- Asks your qualifying questions: the problem or the install, home or business, address and urgency
- Tells callers your posted service call or trip fee, if you want it said up front
- Sends the emergencies on your list to your on-call electrician (warm transfer on Professional and Practice)
- Takes messages from existing customers, builders and general contractors for the morning
- Handles calls in English or Spanish, detected on the caller's first sentence
- Texts back any caller who hangs up before the call is answered
Why PhoneAgent.ai

Answers every call
It answers on the first ring, 24/7, discloses it is your AI assistant, and holds a natural conversation, so no caller is ever sent to voicemail.
Honest and consent-aware
It tells callers it is an AI, recording is optional and consent-aware per state, and outbound texts are TCPA-aware with opt-outs honored.
Books the appointment
Callers get booked straight into your calendar, texted a confirmation and, on qualifying plans, synced to your CRM, so the appointment is on the books before you check.

What an electrician answering service costs at 120 and 300 calls
Every row is priced from the provider's own published pricing, checked in September 2026. The model is a small electrical contractor taking 120 calls in a normal month and 300 in the month after a major storm, at a three minute average call (360 and 900 minutes). The call counts are our working assumption, not an industry benchmark, so rerun the math with your own phone bill. Rows run from cheapest to most expensive in a normal month.
| Provider | Who answers | How it bills | Normal month, 120 calls | Storm month, 300 calls |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| PhoneAgent.ai Starter | AI | Flat monthly, about 150 calls included | $89 | $199 (move up to Professional) |
| Goodcall | AI | Flat per agent, metered by unique caller ($0.50 each over the plan) | $89 (Starter, 100 callers plus 20) | $154 (Growth, 250 callers plus 50) |
| Rosie | AI | Minute buckets, calendar booking from the $149 plan | $149 (1,000 minutes) | $149 |
| PhoneAgent.ai Professional | AI | Flat monthly, about 500 calls, warm transfer to your on-call tech | $199 | $199 |
| Smith.ai AI receptionist | AI | Per call bundles | $270 (150 call plan) | $500 (300 call plan) |
| Sameday | AI | Minute plans, ServiceTitan scheduling listed | $449 (500 minutes) | $789 (1,000 minutes) |
| Specialty Answering Service | Live | Minute plans, billed by the second | About $471 (220 minutes for $269, then 140 at $1.44) | About $1,185 (500 minutes for $649, then 400 at $1.34) |
| MAP Communications | Live | Minute plans | About $480 (250 minutes for $339, then 110 at $1.28) | About $1,161 (500 minutes for $649, then 400 at $1.28) |
| AnswerConnect | Live | Minute plans, every call rounded up to the whole minute | $506 before rounding (Growth, 300 minutes plus 60 at $1.85) | $1,325 before rounding (950 minute plan) |
| Ruby | Live | Minute buckets, no overage rate published | $1,725 (500 minute plan) | Quote (above the largest published plan) |
| AnswerForce | Live | Quote only | Not published | Not published |
The live rows go up by roughly two and a half times between the normal and the storm month, because a minute costs the same whether it is a quiet week or the week the power went out. Goodcall counts a customer who calls three times about the same dead circuit as one caller. AnswerConnect rounds every call up to the next whole minute, so its real bill runs above the figure shown.
What does an electrician answering service do?
It answers your shop's phone when nobody on your crew can, and turns each call into the right next step. Four kinds of call make up most of an electrician's volume, and each needs a different outcome.
A homeowner with a problem (a dead circuit, a breaker that keeps tripping, flickering lights) needs a service call on the calendar before they hang up. A homeowner or business planning a job (a panel upgrade, an EV charger, a generator, a remodel rewire) needs an estimate visit, and that call is usually worth the most money of anything your phone takes all week. A builder, general contractor or inspector needs a message your office can act on. And a caller with something dangerous needs a person tonight, or a clear instruction to call 911 or the utility first.
A traditional answering service handles all four by taking a message. PhoneAgent.ai books the first two on the call, logs the third, and sends the fourth to your on-call electrician by the rules you set. If you also run plumbing crews, the same setup is covered on the plumbing and home services AI receptionist page, and HVAC shops have their own HVAC answering service guide.
How much does an electrician answering service cost?
For a shop taking about 120 calls a month, published September 2026 pricing puts an electrician answering service between $89 and $1,725 a month. Almost all of that spread comes from how each provider counts usage.
Live answering services bill by the minute. Specialty Answering Service sells 220 minutes for $269 and charges $1.44 a minute after that, about $471 for 360 minutes. MAP Communications sells 250 minutes for $339 with $1.28 overage, about $480. AnswerConnect's Growth plan is $395 for 300 minutes plus $1.85 a minute over, and it rounds every call up to the next minute. Ruby runs from $250 for 50 minutes to $1,725 for 500 and publishes no overage rate.
AI services bill differently. Goodcall is $79 a month and meters unique callers, Rosie sells minute buckets with calendar booking starting on its $149 plan, and Smith.ai's AI receptionist sells call bundles from $270 for 150 calls. PhoneAgent.ai is a flat $89, $199 or $399 a month. How every provider in the category prices, across industries, is on our answering service cost page.
Why does a storm week change the math?
Because electrical calls come in waves, and minute billing rides the wave with you. A windstorm, an ice storm or a heat wave that trips old panels can double or triple a week's calls overnight, and those are exactly the calls you most want answered, since every one is a job.
Run the storm column in the table and the gap is plain. At 300 calls in a month, the live services land between about $1,161 and $1,325, and Ruby has no published plan big enough. Smith.ai's per call AI plan roughly doubles to $500. The flat plans barely move: Rosie stays at $149, Goodcall goes to $154, and PhoneAgent.ai moves from Starter to Professional at $199 and stays there.
That is also the month you are running overtime and buying wire and breakers in bulk, so a surprise answering service invoice lands at the worst time. If a fixed bill is the main thing you are shopping for, flat rate answering service shows which plans in this category are truly flat and which are prepaid minute buckets.
Can an AI receptionist book electrical service calls and estimates?
Yes, as long as your schedule lives in a calendar it can see. PhoneAgent.ai connects to Google Calendar, Outlook, Calendly or Acuity, reads your open slots, and books during the call. You set the appointment types (service call, estimate, EV charger consultation, panel upgrade estimate, inspection follow-up), how long each takes, and which days each electrician covers.
On the call it asks what you would ask: what is happening or what they want installed, whether it is a home or a business, the address, roughly how old the house or panel is, and how soon they need someone. Most callers also ask what a visit costs. If you give it your service call or trip fee, it tells them up front, which filters out price shoppers before they take a slot on your calendar.
What it will not do is quote a price for a job nobody has looked at, or talk a caller through electrical work. It books the visit and says an electrician will price the job on site, which is what keeps you out of disputes over a number a phone agent promised.
Does it work with ServiceTitan, Housecall Pro or Jobber?
Not directly, and it is better to know that before you buy. PhoneAgent.ai does not write jobs into ServiceTitan, Housecall Pro, Jobber, FieldEdge, Service Fusion, Workiz or FieldPulse. It captures every call with the customer's name, address, callback number and a description of the problem or the install, and sends it to your team by text and email with the transcript, so your office can create the job in a minute.
It books straight into Google Calendar, Outlook, Calendly or Acuity. Plenty of one to five truck shops run their schedule in one of those, and larger ones often keep a shared estimate calendar even when dispatch lives in their field software.
If the job has to appear inside your field software with no one touching it, look at vendors that list that integration by name and ask to see it working on a demo call. Sameday lists ServiceTitan scheduling on its $449 and $789 plans, and Jobber sells its own AI Receptionist that works inside Jobber; what that one really costs as volume grows is worked out in Jobber AI Receptionist cost.
What counts as an electrical emergency after hours?
Whatever you say counts, and writing that list down is the most useful hour you will spend setting up any answering service. Most electrical contractors end up with something close to this.
A burning smell, smoke, sparking, or an outlet or panel that is hot to the touch: the caller is told to leave the area and call 911 first, and you are notified. A downed or damaged service line: the caller is told to stay away and call the utility, and you are notified if they want the meter base or mast repaired. No power to the whole building with the neighbors on, no heat in freezing weather because of an electrical fault, or a commercial client with refrigeration or security down: warm transferred to your on-call electrician. Everything else, a single dead outlet, lights that flicker, a quote for a generator, gets booked into the next open slot.
PhoneAgent.ai asks your triage questions on every call, the same way at 2pm and 2am. On Professional and Practice it warm transfers the calls on your list to your on-call electrician and books the rest. On Starter it takes the details and sends them to you by text and email straight away.
Live answering service or AI for an electrical contractor?
For most of the calls an electrical contractor gets, an AI receptionist is faster and cheaper. It answers on the first ring, it takes five storm calls at once, it books the visit instead of taking a message, and it does not bill by the minute. It is also the only way to get round the clock coverage with booking for under $200 a month.
A live answering service is the better buy when a large share of your calls need a person's judgment rather than a script: commercial facility managers with complicated service contracts, general contractors coordinating several jobs, or a customer base that will only talk to a human. If that is your phone, Specialty Answering Service and MAP Communications publish their prices, and our Goodcall alternative and Rosie alternative pages compare the AI options in detail. Remodel and new construction shops that mostly sell estimate visits should also read answering service for contractors.
PhoneAgent.ai tells every caller in its first sentence that it is an AI assistant for your company. On Professional and Practice a caller who asks for a person is transferred. Callers who hang up before it answers get a text back, covered on missed call text back.
