Landscaping answering service and answering service for landscapers and lawn care companies that books estimates during the spring rush

A landscaping phone rings hardest in exactly the weeks nobody can answer it. In March and April every homeowner on the block decides at once that this is the year they fix the yard, and they call while you are running a crew, loading a trailer or standing on a site with a mower going. Most of them will not leave a voicemail. They call the next company on the search page, and whoever picks up books the walk-through.

The short answer

A landscaping answering service answers the calls a landscaping or lawn care company misses while the crews are on mowers and the owner is on a job site, captures the property and the project, and books the estimate visit. For a company taking about 80 calls a month (240 minutes), published September 2026 pricing runs from $79 to $1,725: AI services cost $79 to $449 and live answering services about $287 to $1,725. PhoneAgent.ai is $89 a month flat on Starter, or $199 on Professional, and the April rush costs the same as a slow December.

PhoneAgent.ai answers every one of those calls in your company name, finds out what the caller wants (weekly mowing, a spring cleanup, a patio, a full install), takes the address and a rough size of the property, and books the estimate visit into your calendar. Existing customers asking when the crew is coming, and suppliers or subcontractors, get a message logged for the office.

Below is what each way of covering the phone costs in a normal month and in the spring rush, priced from each provider's own pricing page, plus what our AI receptionist will not do (it does not write jobs into Jobber, LMN, Aspire or Service Autopilot, for one).

Why it works

What your team gets with a landscaping answering service

Answers while the crew mows

It picks up on the first ring when you are on a job site, takes several calls at once on the first warm Saturday in March, and never lets an estimate request reach voicemail.

Estimates booked, not messages

It asks your questions (service wanted, property address, lot size, timing, budget range if you want one) and puts the walk-through in your calendar while the caller is still on the line.

Same bill in April as in December

You pay $89, $199 or $399 a month. The spring rush costs the same as the slow season, because nothing is billed by the minute.

What it handles

Answered, disclosed and booked on autopilot

The AI receptionist answers every call 24/7, discloses it is your AI assistant, qualifies and routes the caller, answers your FAQs, and books the appointment straight into your calendar, then texts a confirmation and, on Professional and above, syncs the contact to your CRM.

  • Answers every call 24/7, including evenings and Saturdays when homeowners plan yard work
  • Asks your intake questions: service wanted, address, lot size, timing and budget range
  • Books estimate walk-throughs into Google Calendar, Outlook, Calendly or Acuity
  • Answers common questions about your service area, services and seasonal programs
  • Logs messages from existing customers, suppliers and property managers for the office
  • Sends urgent calls (a broken irrigation main, a tree on a driveway, a snow route problem) to whoever is on call (warm transfer on Professional and Practice)
  • Handles calls in English or Spanish, detected on the caller's first sentence
  • Texts back any caller who hangs up before the call is answered

Callers get booked straight into your calendar, texted a confirmation and, on qualifying plans, synced to your CRM, so the appointment is on the books before you check.

Compare

What a landscaping answering service costs at 80 and 250 calls

Every row is priced from the provider's own published pricing, checked in late September 2026. The model is a landscaping or lawn care company taking 80 calls in a normal month and 250 in the spring rush, at a three minute average call (240 and 750 minutes). The call counts are our working assumption, not an industry benchmark, so rerun the math with your own phone bill. Rows run from cheapest to most expensive in a normal month.

Provider Who answers How it bills Normal month, 80 calls Spring rush, 250 calls
Goodcall AI Flat per agent, metered by unique caller ($0.50 each over the plan) $79 (Starter, 100 callers) $129 (Growth, 250 callers)
PhoneAgent.ai Starter AI Flat monthly, about 150 calls included $89 $199 (move up to Professional)
Rosie AI Minute buckets, calendar booking from the $149 plan $149 (1,000 minutes) $149
ServiceAnswer AI Minute plans $199 (Business, 1,000 minutes; Starter covers only 100) $199
PhoneAgent.ai Professional AI Flat monthly, about 500 calls, warm transfer to whoever is on call $199 $199

From the normal month to the spring rush the live rows roughly triple, because a minute costs the same in a slow week and in the week every homeowner calls about a cleanup. Goodcall counts a customer who calls three times about the same patio as one caller. Responsive Answering and AnswerConnect round every call up to the next whole minute, so their real bills run above the figures shown. LeadTruffle and ServiceAnswer name Jobber and LMN integrations; we do not.

What does a landscaping answering service do?

It answers your company's phone when nobody on the crew can, and turns each call into the right next step. A landscaping or lawn care company gets four kinds of calls, and each needs a different outcome.

A new prospect asking for a quote on mowing, a cleanup, mulch, a patio or an install needs an estimate visit booked, with the address and the scope written down. An existing customer asking when the crew is coming, or asking to skip a week, needs a message your office can act on. An urgent call (an irrigation main spraying across a driveway, a storm-dropped tree, a snow route that was missed) needs a person within minutes. And a caller who is only shopping needs a straight answer about your service area and what you do.

A traditional answering service handles all four by taking a message. PhoneAgent.ai books the first, logs the second, puts the third through to a person on Professional and Practice and answers the fourth, the same way at 10am and at 9pm. Companies that also run plumbing, HVAC or electrical crews are covered on the home services AI receptionist page.

How much does a landscaping answering service cost?

For a company taking about 80 calls a month, published September 2026 pricing puts a landscaping answering service between $79 and $1,725 a month. Almost all of that spread comes from how each provider counts usage.

Live answering services bill by the minute. Responsive Answering sells 125 minutes for $149 with $1.20 a minute after that, plus a $75 setup fee, about $287 for 240 minutes. Specialty Answering Service sells 220 minutes for $269 and $1.44 a minute over, about $298. MAP Communications sells 125 minutes for $179 with $1.30 overage, about $329. AnswerConnect's Growth plan is $395 for 300 minutes and it rounds every call up to the next minute. Ruby runs from $250 for 50 minutes to $1,725 for 500 and publishes no overage rate.

AI services bill differently. Goodcall is $79 a month and meters unique callers, Rosie sells minute buckets with calendar booking from its $149 plan, ServiceAnswer sells 1,000 minutes for $199, and Smith.ai's AI receptionist sells call bundles from $270 for 150 calls. PhoneAgent.ai is a flat $89, $199 or $399 a month. How every provider prices across industries is on our answering service cost page.

Why does the spring rush change the math?

Because landscaping calls do not arrive evenly across the year. The first warm weekends of spring put a large share of the year's new-customer calls into a few weeks, the fall cleanup season brings a second wave, and in snow markets the first storm brings a third. Those are the weeks you are shortest on time to answer and the weeks a missed call costs you a whole season of mowing revenue.

Run the spring column in the table and the gap is plain. At 250 calls a month the live services land between about $837 and $1,050, and Ruby has no published plan big enough. Smith.ai's per call AI plan nearly doubles to $500. The flat plans barely move: Rosie and ServiceAnswer stay at $149 and $199, Goodcall goes to $129, and PhoneAgent.ai moves from Starter to Professional at $199 and stays there.

The reverse matters too. In December and January most landscaping phones go quiet, and a month to month plan means you can drop to Starter rather than pay for minutes you never use. If a fixed bill is the main thing you are shopping for, flat rate answering service shows which plans in this category are truly flat and which are prepaid minute buckets.

What should a landscaping answering service ask a new customer?

The questions you would ask before you drive out, in the same order every time, so the estimate visit is worth the trip. Most landscaping and lawn care companies settle on a list close to this one.

What service they want (recurring mowing, a one time cleanup, mulch and beds, a patio or wall, a full install, irrigation, snow removal). The property address, so you can confirm it is inside your service area before anything is booked. A rough size of the lot or the area to be worked. When they want the work done. Whether they own the property or manage it for someone else. A budget range for larger projects, if you want to filter out a $50,000 dream on a $5,000 budget before the visit. And a callback number and the best time to meet.

PhoneAgent.ai asks those questions on every call and texts and emails the answers with the full transcript. It quotes only the prices you give it (a minimum mow price, a cleanup starting price) and says a crew lead will confirm the rest at the visit. It does not measure the property or estimate a job by phone, which keeps your company out of disputes over a number a phone agent said.

Does it work with Jobber, LMN, Aspire or Service Autopilot?

Not directly, and it is better to know that before you buy. PhoneAgent.ai does not create clients, requests or jobs in Jobber, LMN, Aspire, Service Autopilot, SingleOps, Yardbook or any other landscape business software. It captures every call with the caller's name, address, callback number, service wanted and timing, and sends it to your team by text and email with the transcript, so whoever runs the office can enter it in a minute.

It books estimate visits straight into Google Calendar, Outlook, Calendly or Acuity. Plenty of one to ten crew companies keep their estimate schedule in one of those even when the routes and invoices live in their landscape software.

If the request has to appear inside Jobber or LMN with nobody touching it, LeadTruffle and ServiceAnswer both name those integrations, and Jobber sells its own AI receptionist add-on; we priced that one in Jobber AI receptionist cost. Whoever you pick, ask to see a call land in the software on a demo, and what it costs at your spring volume.

Live answering service or AI for a landscaping company?

For the calls most landscaping and lawn care companies get, an AI receptionist is faster and cheaper. It answers on the first ring, takes several calls at once when spring breaks, asks every intake question every time, books the visit on the call and does not bill by the minute. It is also the only way to get evening and weekend coverage with booking for under $200 a month.

A live answering service is the better buy when your calls are mostly large commercial accounts that expect a person, or when your callers tend to be older homeowners who would rather hang up than talk to software. If that is your phone, Responsive Answering, Specialty Answering Service and MAP Communications publish their prices, and our Goodcall alternative and Rosie alternative pages compare the AI options in detail. The same flat pricing covers trades that share your customers; see pest control answering service and answering service for contractors.

PhoneAgent.ai tells every caller in its first sentence that it is an AI assistant for your company. On Professional and Practice a caller who asks for a person is transferred. Callers who hang up before it answers get a text back, which matters in a trade where the homeowner is calling three companies in a row, and is covered on missed call text back.
