Abby Connect pricing: what Abby Connect costs per minute, per call and per Abby Minute

Abby Connect charges $165, $329, $599 or $1,380 a month for 50, 100, 200 or 500 Abby Minutes, with overage at your own plan rate, no setup fee and month-to-month billing. Two details decide the bill: a minute answered by the AI costs half an Abby Minute, so the same plan buys twice the AI answering, and the step from Starter to Essential improves your rate by one cent a minute. Here is the full cost per call, both columns, and the four volume crossovers.

Abby Connect pricing is $165 a month for 50 Abby Minutes, $329 for 100, $599 for 200 and $1,380 for 500, with an Enterprise tier quoted on request. Overage is billed at your own plan's minute rate, there is no setup fee, and billing is month to month with a free trial. Rate card checked at abby.com in September 2026.

Two things in that card decide what you actually pay, and neither is in the headline. The first is that an "Abby Minute" is not always a minute: a call answered by Abby's AI consumes half of one, so the same plan buys twice as much AI answering as human answering. The second is that the step from the entry plan to the next one up improves your rate by a single cent a minute, which makes the first upgrade close to worthless unless you have crossed a specific line. Both are worked out below.

How much does Abby Connect cost?

Here is the published card with each tier normalized two ways: the cost of one three minute call answered by a human, and the cost of the same call answered by the AI, which stretches the plan.

Plan Monthly price Abby Minutes Rate per Abby Minute One 3-min human call AI minutes it buys One 3-min AI call

Essential$329100$3.29$9.87200$4.94

Growth$1,380500$2.76$8.281,000$4.14

All four published tiers carry the same features. You are buying volume, not capability, which is the same structure Ruby uses and the opposite of vendors who gate integrations behind a higher plan.

What is an Abby Minute?

An Abby Minute is the single unit Abby meters both its human and its AI answering in. A minute handled by a human receptionist consumes one Abby Minute. A minute handled by the AI consumes half of one, so one Abby Minute buys two minutes of AI answering. Abby's own example on the Essential plan is that 100 Abby Minutes covers 200 minutes of AI answering, 100 minutes of human answering, or a mix such as 60 human minutes plus 80 AI minutes.

That mechanic is worth more than it first appears. On Starter, human answering works out to $3.30 a minute and AI answering to $1.65. If the AI handles the routine half of your inbound and hands the rest to a person, your blended rate lands somewhere between the two columns in the table above rather than on the human one. Most published comparisons of Abby, including ones written this year, quote only the human rate and therefore overstate what a hybrid setup costs.

Live transfer is included in that arrangement rather than billed separately. When a caller asks for a person, or the call matches a rule you flagged, the AI warm-transfers to a US-based Abby receptionist or to your own team on the same call. There is no per-transfer fee, which is not universal in this category.

Why upgrading from Starter to Essential buys almost nothing

This is the finding that pays for reading the card properly. Starter is $165 for 50 minutes, which is $3.30 a minute. Essential is $329 for 100 minutes, which is $3.29 a minute. Doubling your monthly commitment improves your rate by one cent.

Now run it as a real bill. Overage on Abby is charged at your own plan's rate, so a Starter customer who uses 90 minutes pays $165 plus 40 minutes at $3.30, which is $297. Essential would have cost $329. Starter is still cheaper. The two plans converge at almost exactly 100 minutes: $165 plus 50 overage minutes at $3.30 is $330, against Essential at $329.

So Essential does not save a Starter customer money at any volume Essential is designed to cover. It only starts to pay once you are past its own 100 minute inclusion, at which point you should be looking at Professional instead. If you are on Starter and watching overage appear each month, the number to check is not whether you have outgrown Starter but whether you have reached 182 minutes, which is where the next section starts.

Which Abby Connect plan is cheapest for my call volume?

Because every tier carries both a fee and an overage rate, the cheapest plan is not the one whose bucket matches your usage. It is the one where the next tier's fee finally beats your current tier's overage. Those crossovers are fixed by the published card:

  • Up to about 100 minutes: Starter at $165, paying overage as needed.
  • About 100 to 182 minutes: Essential at $329.
  • About 182 to 460 minutes: Professional at $599. This is the widest and most forgiving band on the card.
  • Above about 460 minutes: Growth at $1,380.

At a three minute average call, those thresholds are roughly 33 calls, 33 to 61 calls, 61 to 153 calls, and 153 calls and up per month. Professional covers the widest range by a distance, which is consistent with it being the tier most small offices should land on.

Before you pick, work out your real average call length instead of assuming three minutes. Divide the minutes on your last invoice by the number of calls on it. Intake-heavy businesses run five to eight minutes a call, which roughly halves every call threshold above and can move you a full tier. Property managers in particular tend to run long, because a tenant question often turns into someone reading a clause out of a lease while the caller waits, and those minutes are billed at the same rate as a two-line message. Scheduling and status calls run under two minutes and move you the other way.

Does Abby Connect charge a setup fee?

No. Abby's published pricing page states no setup fee, no long-term commitment and a free trial on every plan, checked September 2026. This is worth flagging because a number of comparison articles still in circulation quote a one-time Abby setup fee of around $95. If you are working from one of those, that line is out of date. It is a small amount of money but it is the kind of stale detail that quietly skews a side-by-side spreadsheet.

How does Abby Connect pricing compare to other answering services?

Converted to the cost of one three minute answered call, using each provider's own published rate card as read in September 2026:

ServiceWho answersCost of one 3-minute call
RubyLive humans$10.35 to $15.00
Smith.aiLive humans$10.00, plus $1.50 if it books
Abby Connect, humanLive humans$8.28 to $9.90
PATLiveLive humansAbout $8.97
VoiceNation (Moneypenny)Live humans$5.91 to $9.90
Abby Connect, AIAI, human on transfer$4.14 to $4.95
AnswerConnectLive humans$3.96 to $5.25
AI-native servicesAI$0.59 to $1.49

Abby sits mid-table among the staffed providers on its human rate and moves down a band on its AI rate. Against VoiceNation, which now bills as Moneypenny, the two tie exactly at $165 for 50 minutes and then separate: $329 against $265 at 100 minutes, $599 against $422 at 200. Against Ruby, Abby is cheaper at every bucket. The full staffed-provider field is compared in Moneypenny vs Ruby vs Abby Connect, and the category-wide view is on answering service cost.

Is Abby Connect worth it?

For a business that genuinely wants human receptionists, Abby is one of the better-structured buys in the category, and it is worth saying that plainly. The terms are unusually clean: no setup fee, no contract, a free trial, the same features on every tier, and warm transfer to a US-based person on the same call. The half-rate AI minute is a real discount rather than a marketing line, and the hybrid model it enables is something most vendors in this category do not offer at all.

The case against is the meter itself. Every one of those tiers costs more in the months your phone rings most, which is exactly backwards from what you want, and the usual response is to cap the plan and let the overflow go to voicemail. If your inbound is mostly routine (hours, directions, are you open Saturday, can I move Tuesday, do you take my insurance) then paying eight to ten dollars for a person to answer it is real money for a conversation with no judgment in it.

That is the split worth making before you shop on price. Send the routine, booking-shaped calls to something that costs cents and keep a human on the calls that are genuinely worth ten dollars. PhoneAgent.ai is built for the first half: it answers every call 24/7, says it is an AI in the first sentence, answers your common questions, books the appointment into your calendar during the conversation with no per-booking fee, routes the callers your rules say a person should handle, and texts back anyone it missed. The fee is flat from $89 a month, so a busy month and a quiet month cost the same. If you want the full side-by-side, our Abby Connect alternative page lays it out, and best answering service covers where the staffed providers still win outright.

Whichever way you go, confirm the current rate card at the source before you sign. Pricing in this category moves, and the article you are reading is only as good as the day it was checked.
