LEX Reception does not publish prices on its plans page. It sells nine minute plans from 150 to 2,500 minutes, with each interaction rounded up and billed per whole minute. You get a price only after a consultation, so a solo or small law firm cannot calculate its monthly bill from the public plan grid alone.

We reviewed the LEX Reception plans page on October 23, 2026. This guide separates the published allowances from the missing prices, estimates which allowance fits your intake volume, and compares services with public rates. For the broader choice between human and AI receptionists, start with our legal answering service overview.

How much does LEX Reception cost?

LEX Reception cost is quote only. Its public page lists nine plans and their minute allowances, but no monthly dollar prices, setup fees or extra minute rates. To find out how much LEX Reception costs for your firm, you must book a consultation by video call and request those figures.

Magnus1,50024 to 31Quote only
Consilium2,00031 to 39Quote only
Universum2,50039 to 47Quote only

The page groups plans under Most popular, Mid-size firm, and Enterprise and multi-firm. Its FAQ says each plan shows a monthly price, setup fee and per-minute rate for extra minutes, but those figures are absent from the public page we reviewed. Plans are billed monthly, and LEX says you can change plans at any time at no charge.

Older search results can mislead. Lawyerist, a legal software review site, has reported a starting price of $199 for 175 minutes. The current grid has no 175 minute tier. Review directories have also reported a $150 monthly starting price. These are third-party reports that may be dated, not current LEX Reception pricing or a basis for budgeting.

What do the LEX Reception plans include?

LEX Reception plans include real people answering 24/7, bilingual Spanish, unlimited custom scripts, live call transfer and appointment scheduling. Weekend and holiday coverage carries no extra cost. The service also includes outbound calls to web inquiries, web lead capture, call recording and notifications, with agents based in the US or North America.

Setmore calendar is included for scheduling. Notifications can arrive by SMS, email, Slack or Teams, and payments are available in the app. Named integrations include Clio, MyCase, LawPay, PracticePanther, Filevine, Lawmatics, Smokeball, CosmoLex and CASEpeer. Ask the consultant to demonstrate your intake workflow in your chosen system before treating an integration name as proof that it meets your requirements.

Spam screening includes the first 30 calls under 30 seconds each month free. Call transcription is an add-on at $30 per month. International transfers have tiered pricing, but the tiers and prices are not listed. If either feature matters, have it included in the written quote alongside the base plan and extra minute rate.

How does LEX Reception bill a minute?

LEX Reception rounds every interaction up to the nearest minute and bills in one-minute increments. Its FAQ example is a call lasting 2 minutes 28 seconds that bills as 3 minutes. The timer runs from pickup to the end of the call, so budget using rounded call lengths rather than raw elapsed totals.

Apply the rounding rule separately to each call before adding the month. Adding all recorded seconds first and rounding only the total would understate billable usage. The free short-call allowance helps with spam, but it does not make every brief interaction free. Confirm how the allowance appears on your usage report and invoice.

A five minute average used for planning should mean five billed minutes after rounding. If it is only a stopwatch average, the same calls may consume more plan minutes. Ask whether transfers or outbound follow-up create additional billable interactions, and request a sample invoice showing how each part of your intake process is counted.

Which LEX Reception plan fits your call volume?

Choose the smallest allowance that covers your expected billed minutes, using call length as well as call count. At 60 intake calls averaging five billed minutes, you need 300 minutes, which fits Utilitas exactly. The calls-per-day guide alone can point a firm toward Initio even when longer intake conversations exceed its allowance.

Calls per monthAverage billed minutes per callTotal billed minutesSmallest LEX tier that fits

305150Initio, 150 minutes

605300Utilitas, 300 minutes
1203360Pactum, 500 minutes
1205600Amplio, 750 minutes

At the upper end of Initio's guide, about 90 monthly calls sharing 150 minutes implies roughly 1.5 to 2 billed minutes per call. Legal intake calls often take 4 to 6 minutes. A firm collecting a matter summary and consultation details should therefore measure its own calls before relying on that guide.

These are allowance matches, not claims about the cheapest bill. Without the monthly prices and overage rates, we cannot know whether a smaller plan plus extra minutes beats the next tier. A family law answering service comparison should also account for the time callers need to explain sensitive matters.

What do legal answering services that publish prices cost?

For 60 monthly intake calls using 300 minutes, published options range from PhoneAgent.ai at $89 to Ruby at $1,725. The table uses prices verified on October 13, 2026. LEX Reception and Answering Legal remain quote only, so their relative cost cannot be established from public pricing.

Call-based and minute-based plans use different billing units. This is a shared intake scenario, not a promise that every package includes identical workflows. Compare coverage and intake requirements alongside the bill. Our best answering service for lawyers comparison and lawyer answering service cost guide cover the wider choice.

Is there a cheaper LEX Reception alternative?

PhoneAgent.ai offers a public $89 Starter price for about 150 calls, making it a lower-budget option to evaluate before a LEX consultation. Whether it is cheaper than your LEX quote depends on that quote. It is an AI receptionist, disclosed on every call, rather than a live legal answering team.

PhoneAgent.ai answers 24/7, books consultations into Google Calendar, Outlook, Calendly or Acuity, and sends intake summaries by text and email. Spanish is included on every plan. Starter has no warm transfer. Professional at $199 adds warm transfer, routing and CRM sync; Practice is $399. Plans are month to month. See plans and pricing for the published options.

PhoneAgent.ai does not write intake into Clio or MyCase. Firms that need that workflow, or insist on a human voice on every call, have a clear reason to choose LEX. If your priority is answering and booking, compare an AI answering service for law firms. For another quote-only human provider, see our Answering Legal alternative comparison.

Questions to ask on the LEX Reception sales call

Ask for the monthly price, setup fee and extra minute rate in writing, then have the consultant calculate a bill using your actual intake volume. Include transcription and international transfers if needed. Confirm billing treatment for each step of your workflow so the quote supports a realistic monthly budget.

  • What would my bill be on the recommended tier and the next tier if call volume rises?
  • How are transfers, outbound calls and short interactions recorded against my allowance?
  • When does a free plan change take effect, and what are the cancellation terms?
  • Can you demonstrate the intake fields written into Clio or MyCase?
  • How will scheduling and notifications reach the attorney responsible for the matter?

Also map the handoff after the consultation. If your firm drafts engagement letters or gets retainer agreements signed online, decide who sends them and where e-signature for engagement letters fits. Do not assume answering the initial call includes that later work.

When LEX Reception is the better choice

LEX Reception is the better choice when your firm requires a human voice on every call or needs intake written into Clio or MyCase. Its own pitch is "Keep law human." Those requirements can justify requesting a quote even when a published-price AI service meets your scheduling and notification needs.

For a solo practice still deciding which calls need a person, our attorney answering service page helps frame that choice. Match the required workflow first, measure billed minutes second, and compare the written monthly total before choosing among LEX Reception alternatives.
