Dialpad AI receptionist cost per seat and the flat priced AI receptionist alternatives

Dialpad sells its AI receptionist as AI Agent on conversation-based credits quoted by sales, on top of Connect seats at $15 to $35 per user a month. Here is the part of the bill you can calculate today, what a five person office pays before the AI quote, and the standalone AI receptionists with published prices that answer calls forwarded from a Dialpad number.

Dialpad does not publish a price for its AI receptionist. The voice agent that answers calls is sold as Dialpad AI Agent on conversation-based credits, quoted by sales, and it sits on top of a Dialpad phone system that costs $15 to $35 per user a month. For a small office that means a seat bill you can calculate today plus an AI bill you cannot until someone at Dialpad quotes it.

Everything below was read from Dialpad's own pricing page on October 5, 2026, in US dollars. Dialpad notes that the price shown can vary by region and currency, so treat the seat figures as the US list price, not a promise for your account.

How much does the Dialpad AI receptionist cost?

There is no list price. Dialpad's pricing page shows the AI Agent product with a "Talk to sales" button and an ROI estimator instead of a number. What it does publish is how the meter works: you buy a pool of AI Agent credits, and a conversation uses credits only when the AI does real work, which Dialpad defines as retrieving information or taking an action such as scheduling, routing or an order lookup. A call where the agent does nothing billable is not charged.

That model is fair in one way, since you do not pay for hang-ups. It is hard to budget in another, because the price of a credit and the number of credits a typical call uses are both in the quote, not on the page. You can still pin down the half of the bill that is public, which is the phone system underneath.

Connect includes AI features of a different kind on every plan: real-time call transcription, voicemail transcription and AI Recaps, which summarize calls and pull out action items. Those help a person who already answered the call. They do not answer the call for you. When reviewers say "Dialpad AI is included", that is usually what they mean, and it is a common source of confusion when people search for the receptionist price.

What a small office actually pays for Dialpad with AI answering

Take a five person office that wants an AI agent to pick up calls the team misses. On Connect Pro with annual billing the seats are 5 x $25, so $125 a month, or $175 on monthly billing. On Standard they are $75 or $135. Then add the AI Agent credit pool, which is quoted. The phone bill is real and predictable; the AI line is a conversation with a sales rep.

For a business that already runs on Dialpad and has more than a handful of seats, that can be a sensible path, because the agent lives inside the same admin console, analytics and routing you already use. For a three person shop that just wants the phone answered and appointments booked, it is a lot of process for one job.

Is Dialpad AI worth it for a small business?

It is worth it if you want one vendor for phones, messaging, meetings and AI, and you are large enough that a sales-led contract feels normal. It is harder to justify if your only goal is to stop missing calls. In that case the cost question is not "Dialpad or not" but "where should the AI receptionist sit". You can keep your Dialpad numbers and send unanswered or after-hours calls to a standalone AI receptionist with a published flat price, which is how most small businesses on Dialpad, RingCentral or Google Voice add AI answering without changing phone systems.

The same split exists at RingCentral, whose AI receptionist is also an add-on to a seat plan; the numbers are worked through in RingCentral AI receptionist pricing.

Dialpad AI receptionist alternatives with published prices

These are standalone AI receptionists that can answer calls forwarded from a Dialpad number. Prices were read from each vendor's own page between late September and October 5, 2026, for an office taking 150 calls a month at about three minutes each.

Service How it bills Cost at 150 calls a month Books appointments
PhoneAgent.ai StarterFlat monthly, about 150 calls$89Yes, into Google Calendar, Outlook, Calendly or Acuity
GoodcallPer agent, 100 unique callers then $0.50 each$104 if every caller is new, less with repeat callersYes
UpfirstPer call bundles$119.95 (90 calls for $59.95, then 60 at $1)Yes
RosieMinute buckets$149 (1,000 minutes; the $49 plan does not book)From the $149 plan
PhoneAgent.ai ProfessionalFlat monthly, about 500 calls, warm transfer$199Yes, plus CRM sync
Smith.ai AI receptionistPer call bundles$270 (150 call plan)Yes
Dialpad AI AgentCredits per billable conversation, on top of seatsQuote, plus $15 to $35 per userYes

The spread is narrow at the bottom: four of the six published options cost under $150 a month at this volume. Where they differ is the meter. Goodcall counts unique callers, Upfirst and Smith.ai count calls, Rosie counts minutes, and the flat plans count nothing until you outgrow them. The full field, seventeen vendors normalized to the cost of one call, is in our AI receptionist pricing comparison, and Smith.ai's whole ladder is in Smith.ai pricing.

Can I use an AI receptionist with my Dialpad number?

Yes. Dialpad lets you send calls to an external number, either for every call, for calls nobody answers after a set number of rings, or outside business hours. Point that rule at the AI receptionist's number and your callers still dial the Dialpad number they know. Your team keeps answering when they can, and the AI picks up the rest, books the appointment and emails a summary. Nothing about your Dialpad seats, call history or texting changes.

With PhoneAgent.ai the setup is the same as for any carrier: you get a number, set the forwarding rule on your side, and the receptionist answers in your business name, discloses that it is an AI assistant, and texts back anyone who hangs up before it picks up. If you want calls that need a person sent back to a specific Dialpad user, Professional does warm transfer to any number you choose. Our page on the flat rate answering service model explains why a fixed monthly price behaves better than a credit pool in a busy month.

Which is cheaper, Dialpad AI or a standalone AI receptionist?

For most offices under about ten people, a standalone receptionist is cheaper and faster to buy, simply because you can see the price and start the same day. Dialpad's credit model can come out ahead for larger teams that negotiate a big pool, or for companies that want the agent to look up orders and accounts inside Dialpad's own connectors. If you are in the first group, compare the published prices above against your monthly call count. If you are in the second, get Dialpad's quote in writing with the credit price, the credits per conversation and what happens when the pool runs out.

One more option if a big share of your calls are only people trying to get on the calendar: put scheduling software for your team on your website, so those customers book online and the phone is left for the calls that need a conversation.

Questions people ask about Dialpad AI pricing

Does Dialpad have an AI receptionist?

Yes. Dialpad sells AI Agents that answer voice calls and chats, greet callers, handle routine questions, book appointments and route callers to a person by intent. It is a separate product from the AI transcription and AI Recaps included in Dialpad Connect, and it is priced on conversation credits through sales.

How much does Dialpad AI cost per month?

The AI features in Dialpad Connect (transcription, voicemail transcription and AI Recaps) come with the seat, which is $15 to $35 per user a month in the US. The AI Agent that answers calls is extra and has no published price; Dialpad sells a pool of credits that are used only on conversations where the AI retrieves information or takes an action.

Is there a minimum number of users on Dialpad?

Connect Standard has a one seat minimum, Connect Pro requires three seats and Connect Enterprise starts at one hundred. Connect Pro also caps a business at ten offices, while Enterprise has no office limit. Annual billing is cheaper than monthly on every published Connect plan.

What is the best Dialpad AI receptionist alternative?

For a small business the best alternative is one you can price before you talk to anyone. PhoneAgent.ai costs a flat $89 a month for about 150 calls and books into your calendar, and it works with your existing Dialpad number through call forwarding, so you keep your phone system and add AI answering on top.
